Shifter Slider — Ford Mustang 2013-2014
Scan to watch the installation video.
This video and these instructions currently cover both the 2010-2012 and 2013-2014 Mustang — the process is nearly identical, with the main difference being the appearance of the shifter handle and bezel cover.
Pre-installation:
- Place the vehicle in Neutral, ensure the parking brake is engaged, and turn off the engine before starting.
Disassembly:
- Gently pry around the shifter bezel with a trim tool that will not scratch the finish, and remove it. See this video at 2:30.
- Open the center console lid and pull up the upper console cover. Disconnect any electrical connectors, noting their locations for reinstallation. See this video at 2:38.
- Slide down the chrome shifter-handle cover, then carefully pry it off — take care not to scratch or crack it. See the video above at 1:55.
- Remove the side screws from the shifter handle, disconnect the button cable(s), then pull the handle and cover up and off.
- Carefully press in the four clips holding the shifter assembly cover and remove it. Be gentle — the plastic may be brittle from age, heat, or UV exposure. See the video above at 2:35.
Installation:
- Remove the old, damaged slider and any loose debris from the channel.
- Place the new slider into the channel and verify it moves smoothly before reassembling. See the video above at 4:48.
- If your slider includes a gear-indicator strip, check that it also slides freely.
Reassembly:
- Reattach the shifter assembly cover, making sure the slider stays properly positioned. See the video above at 5:14.
- Reinstall the chrome cover and shifter handle with its screws, and reconnect the button cable(s).
- Reconnect the center console cover and its electrical connectors, then snap the bezel back into place.
- Verify the shifter moves smoothly through all gear positions, and confirm the indicator tab is visible (if applicable).
